Winter Weather Preparations
It’s that time of year again. It’s either freezing, or its windy and freezing, outside! We can’t count how many calls we get from Philadelphians who find themselves stuck out in the cold in a situation that could be avoided.
Locks are mostly made of metal, and when they get cold (really cold), which happens regularly overnight, combined with some humidity you have a frozen lock.
We get calls from folks who have broken their keys off in their front doors, snapped keys off in their car door locks.
To avoid this bit of unpleasantness, we recommend starting with a touch test. If the surface is clearly cold, or you have reason to believe it was very cold recently, proceed with caution. Once you put your key in, give it a slight turn, if there is no give or if it starts to move but the force is very great: Do not continue!
Go to your local hardware store and stock up on a spray can of De-icer. This is a combined de-icer and lubricator for your locks. It cuts through ice on your car windows as well. Follow any directions on the can, spray the solution in the designed fashion (usually this means pointing the straw-end directly into your locks.
If you know you’re about to face some frigid temperatures, it helps to spray De-icer before as well.
Think of it as anti-freeze for your home security, or as simply as the product that will prevent you from damaging your locks.
If you’re in extreme extreme low temperatures, or are expecting some soon, it’s important to note that not just your door locks could freeze. Your ignition and other internal parts of your door lock can freeze as well. In this instance you may want to use more de-icer on the inside lock mechanisms on your door as well. You will have to remove your door panel (more than likely), but the hard work will help you avoid the costly task of having a broken door lock.
There are a few more weather-aware steps you can take for winter’s troubles.
Vinegar and water sprayed on your windows overnight will prevent your windows from icing, and will cut down your scraping time to nil. 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water is generally preferred, but as long as there’s much more vinegar (vinegar provides the lubricating factor, and keeps the water from staying put too long to freeze up).
Some people recommend putting car wax on their headlights to keep them clear during winter weather. Most automotive stores have variants on this, and they all perform fairly well.
Squeaky windshield wipers? Forget about it! Just apply some rubbing alcohol or ammonia to them. Think of it as a revitalizer for your wipers. When using alcohol or ammonia, be sure to wear protective clothing, gloves and mask, and safely dispose of any used materials.
Car Keys and Transponder Keys
As part of our service we aim to provide you with a range of car keys, including transponder keys at very competitive prices. We are recognized as specialists within the car key industry and thanks to this we have a huge range of keys including the latest 2012 models in stock each and every day. In fact we can actually provide car keys faster than the actual manufacturer almost all of the time.
How can we supply them faster than manufacturers?
Most car dealerships do not often deal with problems related to the actual key itself, because of this they do not stock these parts and they are not readily available on the same day you need them. Waiting for the part to be sourced, delivered and installed can take anywhere up to a month depending on the manufacturer of your car and where the part is coming from.
We took it upon ourselves to solve this solution by purchasing a huge range of keys to keep in our premises for when you need a new key. This makes us one of the fastest dispatchers of regular car keys and transponder keys, providing the best service you could dream of. What makes our service even better? Almost all of the keys you buy from us will be cheaper than if you actually had the key delivered by the manufacturer.
The difference between regular keys and transponder keys
Believe it or not most modern vehicles now have a key which is essentially 3 different keys put into one. These keys work mechanically allowing manual opening of the door and the turn on the ignition to release steering locks, A transponder chip that is inserted into the key and required to start the actual ignition and a remote control key to allow remote locking and unlocking.
Unfortunately older keys were not lucky enough to have all of these technologies put inside them and even today some cars do not have remote locking.
A typical regular key will simply work mechanically. You have to put the key into of the door and turn to unlock and the same key is used on its own to release the steering and start the ignition. We stock a huge range of these keys up the latest models and can have them send to you faster than anywhere else.
Transponder Keys have actual transponder chips embedded into the plastic centre of the key. They are programmed with a certain code that your vehicle will recognize. As you turn the key in the ignition the code is read and if it is found to be missing or incorrect the car simply will not start. For this reason keys and immobilisers often have to be reprogrammed when you get a new transponder unit.
Currently there are very few vendors offering the latest 2012 key systems however we have been lucky enough to get a great supply which we are able to offer you at absolutely amazing prices. If you have recently received a quote from a manufacturer ask us to price us a solution for you and save money today.

Modern Security Options For Your Home /Business
by ADMIN on 01/10/2012 in KEYS, LOCKS
As humans we are able to learn, expand our skill sets and adapt to new technologies as the world grows. One of the problems in security is that as security systems have developed in the past so have those individuals who are determined to bypass the restriction and gain access to areas they are prohibited from. As modern security systems continue to become more complicated and diverse these individuals are struggling to find ways around the protection in place. In this article we will look at some of today’s modern security systems for your home or business.
CCTV

CCTV has been around for some time now, but more modern systems allow you to have multiple cameras hooked up to one central unit. A common technique is to have your cameras hooked up to a computer server where you can view the multiple camera windows on 1 or more monitors. This gives you the ability to see what it going on everywhere in the building at one time. This is handy if you have only one person in a security control room at one point as they have an easy over view.
IP Camera
On top of a standard modern CCTV solution is the use of IP cameras. These cameras use the Internet protocol technology which allows them to send and receive data over localised networks or the internet. These tend to cost more to implement yet are very flexible and have great video resolutions. One of the huge advantages of this type of camera is that you can have remote access. This allows people to see what it happening at the work place from anywhere in the world.
Motion Detection Alarms
Motion detection alarms are a great upgrade on standard house and business alarms. These alarm systems often use technologies like infrared so that they can see a huge span of a room. This allows to tell if something it moving within a huge area. These can be installed in all areas of your business and set up so that they are only activated between a certain time period or so that it can be terminated by an employee when they arrive at work.
Biometric Locks
Biometric locks have revolutionized the way door security works. A standard lock and key system can often be easily bypassed, whether the door was heavily reinforced or not.
Biometric locks work by using the finger prints that have been programmed into the system. As we are all individual humans our finger prints are completely unique and therefore cannot be copied. This system allows you to register employees or family members fingerprints to the system so that only those can access the area restricted by the system. The system locks using a very heavy system and is almost unbreakable without the correct finger print.
All of these modern security systems have the ability to seriously improve your home or business security. One of the most effective methods you could implement is to use multiple systems to create a multi-level security system offering the highest security possible.
How Can i Protect My Place Of Business?
by ADMIN on 12/10/2011 in KEYS, LOCKS
IF you are the owner of a business, you want nothing more than for your business to safe. In this era of ever rising crime rates, more and more businesses are being put at risk. Sometimes, an old fashioned security camera or stationed security guards just aren't enough. In regards to keeping your business at its safest, you will want to utilize the best options for the security of your business. Some of the items you may want to consider for the safety and security of
your business are IP cameras, biometric locks and hidden safes.
If you rent or own a building for your particular business, then it is important to keep that building secure. Any place of business is subject to be broken into at any point in time. To make sure your business is secured from any unwanted entry, try investing in bio-metric locks. A biometric lock does not need a key to be operated. Instead, it relies on fingerprints. Biometric locks use fingerprint recognition technology. It recognizes the fingerprints of the owner or other authorized individual of the building. These locks give the advantage of being difficult to break into. Everyone's fingerprints are unique and cannot be copied or stolen. A key, however, can be lost, stolen or copied. Traditional locks can be picked with ease. With a biometric lock, there is the extra degree of security a traditional lock does not provide.

Many people, be they business owners or not, use safes to conceal valuable items. However, some safes are rather large and easy to discover. This gives a potential thief an advantage. However, with hidden safes, the safe is cleverly concealed in a place within the building or home where it cannot easily be found. Hidden safes are capable of being hidden behind photos, paintings, walls, columns, and the like. Hidden safes are usually custom fitted and installed into the area of your choice. They are fully concealed and the location is unknown to anyone except the safe's owner and/or other trusted individuals. A hidden safe would be the perfect place to conceal valuable items pertaining to your business.
Security cameras are very useful, but only after an event has occurred unless there is someone to monitor the footage as it is being taken. As a business owner, you cannot sit in a room and watch the stream from a security camera the entire day. With IP cameras, the footage is accessible through the internet in real time. You can access the footage at any point during the day through your own personal stream without even being present in the building. The footage can be accessed using a computer or Smart Phone. Security IP cameras also have much higher resolution than regular security cameras. Some IP cameras even allow two way communication between the person viewing the footage and person in front of the camera. While they may be pricey, the investment is ultimately worth the security of your business.
What Does High Security Mean?
Security Services
We can offer you a range of locksmith and security services to either fix a previously broken layer of security or simply add another layer to the security of your home. With years of experience behind us we can offer you a fast and professional service that is hard to find elsewhere.
Transponder Keys
Transponder keys work with radio signaling to notify the receiving lock that it is there, one of the most common places to find them are in cars. When you put the key in and turn the ignition on the computer transmits signals to the transponder circuit in the key. This is done with a computer chip which is programmed inside the key to respond to the received signals with a coded signal. If the signal does not match or is not correct then the car will not start, or the door will not open.
This is a great security system to have added to car's security as it means only those with a programmed key will be able to gain access to the vehicle . We can fit a transponding solution and show you how to keep it working as expected for years to come.
Safes
Want something with even more security than your house? We can offer you a range of highly secure safes to keep your more sentimental belongings safe. In case of a house burglary there is always a means of access through windows and this is something which hard to start without giving the look of your house a strange look. Once someone has gained access to your house they can take your belonging as they please.

If you have a safe that requires a unique combination to open, you can have all of your valuable assets stashed where a burglar can't read them. Safes come in a range of different sizes and some with different methods for opening. An everyday burglar will not be trained in cracking safes and there is a very good chance that when faced with the challenge they will leave the safe. If you are worried that a burglar could still take your safe, there are safes available which are more than too heavy for a single person to carry.
High Security Locks
There is a huge range of high security locks available on the market and we are more than happy to select one and install it for you. These locks are very bulky when compared to a standard lock you find on a garden shed and in some cases almost unbreakable with the use of saws and other tools.
You can have multiple high security locks installed in one place to add multiple levels of security to one single door or area meaning an unauthorized being would have to go through both locks before any other security measures that are in place.
Some of the locks on the market already have 2 layers of security in a single device. For example there are heavy duty pad locks available which also have a combination feature on the bottom of the object. This means the lock cannot be opened with the key until the correct combination has first been entered.
What are the basic kinds of locks available?

Home security and safety should be very high on the list of
priorities for any home owner including those who have owned properties for a
long period of time. There are a huge range of security devices available in
today's market. This can make it particularly hard to choose the right solution
for your business or residential property.
It is very common for new home owners to believe that one
simple level of security is enough to protect their home; however this is far
from correct. Certain security systems can be compromised far easier than some
of the other more advanced solutions. The lower end of the home security levels
includes only having one lock on your main front door. This can be busted by
heavy objects or burglars strong enough to do so. This makes it clear that
there is a need for another type of lock or system to provide the extra
protection to stop an intruder gaining access to your home.
Different Kinds of Locks available for your home
Standard Bore Lock -
These are the simple "key-in-knob" style lock that
you find on almost every door to a house. It allows the door to be opened from
both the inside and the outside. Usually the door does not need to be locked
from the inside but is always locked to someone on the outside; this is to make
it easier to leave the house in case of emergency.
Deadbolt Locks -
Deadbolts are only used in certain security set ups but are
very secure. They require more than one action to open the door. For example a
key and a twist of the knob will be required. This solution already offers a
small 2 level security plan which is why they are considered to be more secure.
Latch Locks -
These types of lock have a latch on and are sometimes
installed above a standard bore locked door. Latches tend to operate
automatically every time a door is closed. To open them you need a key from the
outside to turn the latch, on the inside it can usually be operated by a thumb
turn. Sometimes there is also an extra switch to turn the latch on/off. When on
this means your door is always locked and never left open for easy entry.
Interconnected Locks -
An interconnected lock has both a lock and a door handle
connected to one device. A single turn of the key will usually release both
locking features to provide a fast and safe exit in case of emergency along
with the extra security features of a deadbolt lock.
Chain lock -
Chain locks can be used an addition to your door for extra
internal security. 2 parts are added to the external frame and the door itself.
A chain connects and only allows the door to open a certain amount before the
chain stops it going any further. This means even if you leave your door
unlocked by accident you still have some sort of safety in place.

Deadbolts: Old Faithful
by ADMIN on 10/12/2010 in LOCKS
A sure thing is a description of something which is more or less guaranteed. With a sure thing you can depend on the outcome to be a positive one and in the world of locks and the locksmith the deadbolt lock is the prime example of a sure thing.
If you look on many of the homes and businesses here in your city you will find deadbolt locks in place on most of them.
The popularity of the deadbolt lock is due to its ability to work, and work well. With features such as a strong steel make up as it’s design and the utilization of a strike plate you can be sure that deadbolts are up to the job for the protection you require.
There are a large number of manufacturers with many fine deadbolt lock products on the market and just about every locksmith would agree that their installation will aid in the purpose of a locking system, to keep you and your loved ones, items, and inventory safe!
The way a deadbolt lock works is quite simple compared to more hi tech locks and you get superior results. The bolt on a deadbolt will thrown, or retracted, from a key and the turning unit inside of the lock will not throw it, however the bolt inside automatically locks, or deadlocks, when it is fully thrown.
In the easiest terms possible, the deadbolt lock is installed in the door and when it is activated, or locked, it will slide in to the door jam providing the something that cannot be moved in order to keep the door in place.
As mentioned above the strike plate that is used with a deadbolt lock with give added strength, as it is made with strong metal and makes it more difficult to defeat. Strike plates are also one of the most effective tools used with locks to prevent unauthorized access by way of forced or kicked entry.
Another very effective lock that is part of the deadbolt family is the warded lock. A warded lock has a deadbolt locking mechanism in it and they are quite effective, as well. When you are thinking of upgrading or changing the locks in your home the first thing you will want to do is research what is available and compare it to the requirements that you have.
Will you need locks for residential purposes or business purposes? What is your budget? What level of security do your need?
All of these questions are of great importance and sometimes it is difficult for someone without security experience to determine.
A good suggestion in this situation is to consult with a residential 24/7 Local Locksmithabout you ideas and what you want to do.
A locksmith has the required experience for pretty much every lock, key and protection item on the market since they work with them daily and understand which ones are easily defeated and which ones offer the most by way of defense.
Remember also that if you choose to perform any installs on your own to follow directions carefully in order to get the most out of your locks or have a professional perform this for you. Also remember to keep apprised of your locks conditions and have maintenance performed as needed.
Home Key System Inspection
by ADMIN on 10/12/2010 in KEYS, LOCKS
Ask almost anyone what their idea of the American dream entails and undoubtedly the top answer will be the purchase of a home. The security, independence, and sense of achievement in such a large scale acquisition is a top goal of most Americans, young and old alike. While the purchase of a home requires your attention towards the typical items such as securing a mortgage and insurance, there is also a very important, yet largely overlooked, process that every home buyer and real estate investor should be made aware of in each transaction: assessing the pre-existing house key system.
More often than not an inspection of the keying system is not suggested or made available to the buyer via the real estate agent, broker, lender or building inspector, nor is it typically recommended by the National Association of Realtors. While a first time or seasoned property buyer would be remiss in not performing a home inspection to determine the condition of the property and having the ability to find out about any existing or foreseeable problems there would, too, be negligence in not performing a proper assessment of the pre-existing key system(s).
From value to the home buyer by limiting liability, averting any future repair costs due to poor workmanship of the previous service on the current system to a myriad of legitimate security concerns, a proper assessment can not only identify any problems that must be addressed immediately, but in most cases be repaired before the transaction is completed. A well known and common practice in real estate transactions post home inspection is the issuance of the “Buyers Inspection Report” for highlighting issues present and projected thereby providing the seller an option of paying compensation to the new buyer or performing repairs on the home for the purchaser.
With the help of 24/7 Local Locksmith to perform a professional assessment of the existing key system of the home or investment property, the buyer can also ask and expect to have repairs made, replacements installed prior to the close of escrow or, if preferred, compensation offered to them by the seller to make all necessary changes themselves, as well as the peace of mind that a dependable, safe and secure key system is in place. The idea of this practice, a pre-existing home key system inspection, which is currently grossly under used, is one that when brought to the attention of all prospective and current home buyers and investors will prove through proper inspection of a locksmith, with suggestions and recommendations provided, to be just as important as the aforementioned general home inspection to give an even better, safer and more accurate portrait of the home or investment property being purchased.
For the current and future dreamer and investor remember that your investment is your future and your future is more secure when having a residential locksmith perform a pre-existing home key system.
Biometric Locks
by ADMIN on 10/11/2010 in LOCKS
Biometric locks are based on fingerprint authentication, and to be more exact, a certain individual’s fingerprint. Unlike reading a fingerprint in a manner of forensic examination, these locks read the print in a different method. In order for us to understand the authentication process we first would have to understand the anatomy of a single fingerprint.
Fingerprints have many elements to them, they include ridges or elevated lines of flesh which create the unique and various patterns of the fingerprint and they are separated by valleys. These ridges form all kinds of different patterns which include curves, arches, loops and much more. Minutiae are discontinuities in the ridges, which also come in different shapes and various forms such as bifurcations which are like forks and also there are crossovers that are more like intersections.
The basis of the print authentication is relies on a select amount of subset features from the entire print. There is a special formula that reduces the data collected on a fingerprint only to the information which is completely unique to that fingerprint alone. An example would be to perform a data collection only on a very specific type of series of ridges as we mentioned earlier. In other words, the entire data of the fingerprint is not stored, only a few key factors which represent that print is stored instead. And as we also mentioned before, this is quite different from the forensic meaning of fingerprint which usually requires an entire print.
Your average data file of a print is less than a 1000 bytes, this is used for either a one on one or a one to several verification methods and ordinarily takes just a few seconds. Forensic data files of prints are much larger, they reach over 250 kilo-bytes, and this is mainly due to the fact that it stores a complete fingerprint, and these files are used in large databases such as the FBI, CIA and other law enforcement agencies to allow one to many searches.
The actual operation of a fingerprint authentication is very easy. Initially the end-user would first have to submit a fingerprint sample to register in the system. The sensor will capture the prints image. This will be translated by the formula we mentioned earlier and only a few select features will be saved and stored. This procedure can be done either on a remote or local computer. On a biometric lock this is usually done locally. When the user wishes to gain entry from now on, all they would have to do is swipe their finger against a sensor which will in turn identify and match it with any of the data files stored, if a match is found, access will be granted. This process usually takes between 1 to two seconds.
Master Key Systems
by ADMIN on 10/11/2010 in KEYS
Did you ever wonder how the maintenance guy can open every door in your building, yet all he carries with him is one key? The key he carries is a master key, and while all other keys may only open of each doors in the building, his key is not limited at all. There is nothing special about the actual key in a master key system. The real explanation lies actually within the locks themselves. The way a lock works is very similar to a puzzle, only when inserting the correct key will align everything inside the cylinder perfectly allowing you to turn the key. But what if the puzzle had more than one solution? Instead it had two, maybe three, maybe even more?
To make things easier to understand, we’ll just use an example of the most basic master system. Imagine you had two doors, each door had its own individual key which unlocked it. In addition you now wanted one key for yourself which would unlock both doors. This is where master keying would used. A locksmith would rearrange the pins inside the cylinders of your locks in such a way that would allow your previous individual keys to still work, but at the same time you would have one key that opened them both.
At a larger scale, imagine a building where you had over a thousand doors, a hotel for instance. Now you would like to give each guest a key that would only work his room, you would want the maid to have access to all the rooms but limited to certain floors in the building. And on top of all that, the hotel manager would have one key that would unlock everything. This would be a three level master system, since now you have multiple levels of authorized entries.
Of course, this is an overly simplified explanation of how Master Key systems work, but it should provide a good starting point.

- Ask your locksmith for a valid license, he must carry one.
- When in doubt, ask for advice from your locksmith or from the Crime Prevention Officer at your local precinct.
