BRAND INSIGHT
About Mazda’s Key System
Mazda used Texas Instruments G-chip transponder keys from 2001 through 2015 — a well-understood system we program without issue. Older CX-5 and Mazda3 models use a flip or switchblade design, straightforward to cut and code on-site. Starting in 2016, Mazda introduced its Advanced Keyless Entry (MAKE) system across the CX-5, Mazda3, Mazda6, and CX-9. These proximity smart keys pair to the BCM via OBD-II and require current Mazda programming software.
One thing worth knowing: Mazda Connect (the touchscreen infotainment) has nothing to do with the ignition key system. Even if your screen is cracked or malfunctioning, we can still program a new key without any issue. All Mazda key work is done at your location — home, office, or roadside.
Common Mazda Key Problems We Fix in Philadelphia
- →CX-5 “Key Not Detected” after battery swap — Advanced Keyless Entry loses BCM sync. Reprogram takes 15 min on-site.
- →Mazda3 transponder not starting car — G-chip failure or programming loss. New key cut and programmed at your location.
- →Mazda6 remote works but car won’t start — transponder has failed inside the fob. Key replacement, not just battery.
- →CX-30 smart key intermittent detection — often a CR2032 battery issue. We test before recommending a replacement.
Mazda Models We Service
We carry programming equipment for all Mazda models. Mazda uses chip-embedded transponder keys on all models from 1999 onward, and push-button start Advanced Key systems from 2013+.
